Drunk Pears

  1. Pour the sugar, red wine, lemon peel, cinnamon stick and anise star into a small saucepan.

  2. Peel the pears and remove the core and place in the pan.

  3. Bring to a boil and bring to a boil, gently, for about 30 minutes or until tender.

  4. Turn the pears from time to time.

  5. Remove the pears into a bowl and set aside.

  6. Add the Port wine to the syrup and let it boil until it reduces and begins to thicken.

  7. Remove the lemon peel, cinnamon stick and anise, pour the syrup over the pears and let it cool.
